Save the Date Cards

Save the date cards are also becoming more and more common.  For some couples, they want to make sure that their loved ones are able to attend their big day, so prior to sending an actual invitation they send out a save the date card that announces that they are going to get married at a particular date with a note that an actual wedding invitation will follow.  These are sent very early on, sometimes as early as a year before the ceremony.

Some wedding invitation packages include the save the date cards to be sent prior to the invitations themselves.  Usually they look similar to the actual invitation so as to tie together a theme and have only the name of the couple and the date.
